Claire Wray is the founding member and Senior Atmospheric Scientist at Rayten Engineering Solutions, Johannesburg. Claire Wray has an MSc in Atmospheric Science from the University of the Witwatersrand. During her studies she was involved in several research projects in the Atmosphere and Energy Research Group and the Climatology Research Group at Wits university. In 2002 she presented her research project at the Safari 2000 Synthesis workshop at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, USA. Due to the collaboration between Wits and NASA on the Safari 2000 project Claire was afforded the opportunity to work with Dr Vincent Realmuto at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California and was able to gain a better understanding of the ability to use satellites to detect sulphur dioxide from space.

After completing her studies at Wits she assisted BHP Billiton Johannesburg Technology Centre with their ISO14001 certification and thereafter headed up the air quality division of a small environmental consultancy. Claire was also involved in the formation of another environmental company in which she was appointed as a Director. In 2009 Rayten Engineering Solutions was formed and since 2009 has grown into one of the leading air quality companies in South Africa and highly respected by industries, mining companies and the environmental community. Rayten is one of only a handful of companies in South Africa that are SANAS accredited for stack testing and gravimetric weighing.

Claire has 21 years’ experience in air quality management and monitoring. Her focus now is growth of the group of companies and seeking out opportunities for new businesses and collaborations, as well as investing in upliftment and progression of the companies most important asset…….its people.

‘I believe the key to Rayten’s success is the ability to nurture the people that work with us and focus on growth of individuals, and never forget the profound impact a small group of motivated people can make on the world we live in.
