The Garden Route District Municipality (GRDM) is committed to improving and maintaining air quality across the region, ensuring a healthy environment for all residents. As part of the AQMP review and renewal process, Rayten Engineering Solutions has followed the necessary legal requirements to review and renew the 4th generation Air Quality Management Plan (AQMP) for the GRDM and its respective B-municipalities (3rd generation AQMPs).

This review process included a comprehensive evaluation of the previous AQMPs, setting the foundation for a more robust approach. A baseline assessment was conducted, taking into account crucial data such as meteorological patterns, ambient air quality measurements, and the geographical characteristics of the area. Additionally, we assessed the impact of future developments on air quality, ensuring the AQMP accommodates both current and anticipated changes in the region.
A significant component of the renewal process was the completion of an extensive emissions inventory. This inventory covered various sectors, including industrial activities, domestic fuel burning, transport emissions, waste treatment and disposal, agricultural practices, and biomass burning. By identifying sources and quantifying emissions, the GRDM and its respective B-municipalities can target the most impactful areas for intervention and improvement.
We have also conducted an audit of all relevant government resources to ensure that the project aligns with national and local legislation, ensuring efficient and effective implementation. To engage the community and stakeholders in the process, public participation meetings took place, allowing for valuable input from local residents, businesses, and other stakeholders.
Currently, the draft AQMP is in the final stages of completion, incorporating all relevant data and public feedback. Once finalized, the plan will serve as a comprehensive framework for addressing air quality challenges in the GRDM and its respective B-municipalities, ensuring compliance with national air quality standards and safeguarding the health and wellbeing of the community.
This AQMP reflects the GRDMs dedication to sustainable air quality practices, fostering a cleaner, healthier environment for all.
